How to Move a VM to a different datastore, preserving its ID

I would like to move a VM to a different datastore.

Because I use 3rd party software that identifies a VM by its VirtualCenter ID, I would like to preserve the ID, and I would also like to preserve the VM Name.

If I clone the VM, I lose the ID, and also the name.

I can clone it a second time to restore the name, but the ID is still wrong.

I know that I can use vmkfstools -i to copy just the disk.

Is there a way to copy the entire VM?

I'm currently on ESX 3.0.2/VC 2.0.2

Is the operation I describe available in ESX 3.5.x/VC 2.5.x
