We have a problem with vmotion failing due to CPU compatibility .
We have a cluster of 10 ESX hosts running ESX 3.03
1) ESX 1 ProLiant DL585cG1 875 Opteron
2) ESX 2 ProLiant DL585c G1 875 Opteron
3) ESX 3 ProLiant DL385c G2 2218 Opteron Dual-Core
4) ESX 4 ProLiant DL385c G2 2218 Opteron Dual-Core
5) ESX 5 ProLiant BL685c G1 8220 Opteron Dual-Core
6) ESX 6 ProLiant BL685c G1 8220 Opteron Dual-Core
7) ESX 7 ProLiant BL685c G1 8222 Opteron Dual-Core
8) ESX 8 ProLiant BL685c G1 8222 Opteron Dual-Core
9) ESX 9 ProLiant BL685c G5 8384 Opteron Quad-Core
10) ESX 10 ProLiant BL685c G5 8384 Opteron Quad-Core
Hosts 9 and 10 has been installed lately .
Vmotion work fine between hosts 1 to 8 . It doesn't work when trying to move a VM on a newer host ( 9-10 )
Vmware support officially said it's not possible and that ESX 3.5 should be installed to solve the issue . As , at the moment , this is not an option I wonder if anyone has had the same problem and solved it ?
thanks
