Hi everyone, I have a problem with some GUEST VMs failing when their mounted disks become mounted read-only. This problem is irregular, and does not occur on every VM. All VMs use the same NFS datastore and only some of them have remounted their virtual disks read-only.
We have 2 ESX 3.0.2, 616618 servers and only some, and HA working fine using this NFS datastore. The NFS share is mounted using a single gigabit NIC and is on the same network as the EMC Celerra that provides it via a dedicated NIC.
I noticed when doing disk-intensive activities on a VM last night 3 other VMs on that ESX server went into read-only mode, but 6 othes did not, all of them using the same NFS share. We detect the problem relatively quicky via nagios, but I noticed nothing in any of the VMWARE GUIs or the hostd-1.log that tipped me off to the problem.
Does any one know 1) why this is occuring 2) how to prevent it 3) how to detect it through vmware?
I appreciate any help. Thanks!
Rohit
