Can you run different NUMA settings on ESX Hosts?

Hi All,

We are currently running ESX 3.0 and have been experiencing an issue with some our of virtual servers just randomly shutting down I googled the error message displayed in the event logs which lead me to the article below in the VMware KB -

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=10213

This article relates to the exact message that we are receiving so I am confident that its troubleshooting steps should work as we are running the NUMA architecture in our environment however I have a question before I make the change as management are keen to know a little bit more information with regards to the knock on effects of changing the NUMA settings in our environment.

Therefore as we are running two ESX hosts in our environment my question was as follows can I make the NUMA changes on just one ESX host and then migrate (if they are not there already) the servers that have been having the random shut down problem across to the ESX host that has the correct NUMA settings as detailed in the KB article listed above?

Have any of you out there done this before? If so were there any nasty knock on effects that I should be aware of? Any feedback or advice you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated! Roll on the migration to VSphere 4.0!

Thanks,

Nick
