Exit Maintenance mode manually after remediation?

I have used the new Update Manager in VI 3.5 several times now, and I'm confused about something... when the updates have been applied the ESX server is automatically rebooted. After it comes back up it is still in maintenance mode and sits there for literally 20-30 minutes, after which it comes out of maintenance and starts loading the VMs. During this time is still says "remediate entity" as the Active task, and the status of the tasks is always 63%.

My question is: am I really supposed to wait for it to come out of maintenance mode automatically, or am I supposed to manually take it out, thus getting my VMs back up much faster? I can't really tell but based on drive activity it doesn't seem like the server is "doing much" after it has rebooted and stays in maint. mode... it just sits there for 20-30 min and then finally starts loading the VMs.

Any info appreciated.
