VMs inside Pool shuts themselves down unexpectedly - why is that?

Hi all.

We have a problem on our ESX (or VI server) that I hope someone out there knows something about. We have a two-host ESX 3.01 setup, and all the configuration has been done by an external company. I know the basics of VM operation, but this issue - well - I am not sure what to do about it.

There are six VMs defined inside the Pool. They are all part of a test environment and attached to a private VMware network switch, and have no connection to the outside world. The only restriction applied by the Pool is to limit CPU usage to a maximum of 8,000 MHz. Although the swich (VMprivate) is defined on both hosts, all servers have to reside on the same host in order to make it work - fair enough.

They were all working last Friday, but this morning all but one was off. Not disconnected in the VI client, but simply turned off. Why could that be? I selected one of them and then looked at the "Tasks & Events" tab and select Events, I see some disturbing lines like this (in the window sorted the other way around):

vmhost01."ourcompany.domain" is disconnected - info - 19-12-2008 15:26:34

Alarm Virtual Machine CPU Usage changed from Green to Gray - info - 19-12-2008 15:26:35

Alarm Virtual Machine Memory Usage changed from Green to Gray - info - 19-12-2008 15:26:35

Virtual Machine on vmhost01."ourcompany.domain" is powered off - info - 19-12-2008 15:33:42

Resource allocation changed - info - 19-12-2008 15:33:42

Host is disconnected - info - 19-12-2008 15:33:47

Any ideas or suggestions?

Best regards, Jan.
