How do I create a standby SC NIC connection

So I have one VMNIC for SC with its IP configured and all is working. ( DL580 )

vSwitch0 - vmnic1 - pSwitch1

I would like to utilize a second vmnic on another pSwitch in case pSwitch1 goes down. Do I need to create a second vSwitch for SC or can I use vmnic2 as standby and it should kick in if I remove the cable on vmnic1??

vSwitch0 -vmnic2 - pSwitch2

I have tried and each time I pull the cable the host loses its IP and no connection to the switch. They are both on the same subnets this has been confirmed.
