We've got a new Dell PowerEdge 2970 and I'm trying to install ESX on it but I'm not getting anywhere. I've inserted the Dell CD and run the Systems Build & Update Utility and selected that I want to install VMWare ESX, it then asks me to insert the VMWare install CD and reboot. The system reboots and boots from the VMWare CD and asks a few usual questions like so...
What language would you like to user during the installation process? - English
What type of keyboard do you have? - uk
What type of media contains the packages to be installed? - Local CDROM
Unable to find any devices of the type needed for this installation type. Would you like to manually select your driver or use a driver disk?
And that's it, whatever option I choose I can't get any further. I can't quite work out what it wants a driver for, looking at the list of drivers it provided it looks like it's looking for raid card drivers (this system has a PERC6 one) but judging from the message it looks to me like it can't find the CD-ROM drive (which it has booted from) which is SATA CD drive.
Has anyone come across this before, I'm sure I'm missing something really simple but I just can't get it to work.
Many thanks,
Tom
