Virtualized our major file server (Windows server 2003 R2) on one ESX. Both host and vm are patched up to date. From time to time, I notice if my users copy a big amount of files at a time, the server's CPU gets some sharp spikes. I see this in my VC-client Perfomance chart. I am wondering what may cause that "problem"? Does that make sense to you? I see network and disk spikes happening during those time of course. Anything I could do to improve the preformance? It's a pure file server, no add-ons. It runs file service for pc and file service for macintosh. Any thoughts?
