We support about 20 EXS 2.5.x servers mainly running versions of RedHat Linux. Because we patch kernels very aggressively we always have to compile our own version of VMWare Tools rpm which we distribute to our guests via our own repository.
We are slowely moving to 3.0.x however I am concerned that I will have some incompatability in our VMWare Tools packages because when we distribute the rpms, the guests are not aware if they are hosted on 2.5.x or 3.0.x. therefore I would have to manually upgrade them or hold back packages which I don't want to do.
What I would like to do is build one rpm for each kernel so that I can just push it out regardless of the infrastucture it's hosted on.
What I would like to know is :
Are the vmware tools provided for VI3 going to work with our ESX 2.5.x based guests?[/b]
