PowerEdge 2650 - Unable to find a supported device to write the VMware ESX 3i 3.5.0 image to

Dear helpers,

Last weekend I bought a cheap PowerEdge 2650 to run VMware ESXi on.

The storage devices are 3x73GB Perc SCSI Ultra U320 by Seagate. At the moment I don't run in RAID.

I run the latest BIOS version A21.

I started with downloading and installing ESXi 4.0 but it seems the PowerEdge 2650 isn't compatible.

So I went on downloading and installing ESXi 3.5, this went a little bit better (I could say install and agree with the agreement).

But after checking my hardware it gave a error that it couldn't find a supported device.

I started googling to hopefully find a solution, maybe I forget some of the things I tried, but here goes:

Changing the GetInterfaceType to SCSI in the TargetFilter.py file.

http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/ESXi_install_to_IDE_drive/ESXi_install_to_IDE_drive.php

After trying this I still got the same error message, it didn't change a thing.

Creating a bootable USB with a install.tar of the CD ISO of ESXi 3.5

http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/Boot%203i%20from%20USB%20flash%20drive.html

This didn't work because the BIOS of PowerEdge 2650 isn't supporting booting from USB

I can not think of any other things (at the moment) I tried, but maybe I get to this with some of the solutions you give.

I already worked on this for like 5 hours and I didn't except this kind of problems, so hoping anybody here can help me out.

Best regards,

RayBurn86

PS: Please let me know if I missed necessary information or need to try something on the PowerEdge 2650.
