All,
I have a lic file I am using currently for 1 VC server and 10 ESX Enterprise hosts. Total of 20 CPU licenses. I have just activated via web 4 more CPU lics for ESX enterprise (2 x2CPU) and downloaded the license file. Instructions were to cut and paste into existing vmware.lic file and I should be good to go. I have run into multiple issues, however, when doing so.
1. Whenever I cut and paste the new lics into the old file and save, I will open the file back up and see that the formatting of the file is a garbled....like word wrapping was not working correctly. If I try to use this lic file and restart the license service, it immediately terminates when trying to restart the service.
2. When when combining the lic files and restarting the service, VC will only read the new license keys that I cut and pasted into the old lic file...it will not see the existing licenses that were already there. It doesn't matter where in the file I put them (at begining just under the header, or appending to the end), when I restart the lic service, it will only see the four licenses.
Issue #1 was somewhat resolved after I used a text editor other than notepad/wordpad which is why I was able to get to issue #2. I wanted to include issue #1 though for a little history on the issue.
So how can I combine these lic files to read all the licenses? I have a case open with VMWare now, but wanted to see if anyone else ran into this issue as well.
ESX hosts = 3.0.1 fully patched
VC server = 2.0.2 build 62327
