recover deleted .vmdk file ?

Hi,

Just upgraded the last server from ESX 2.5 vmfs2 to 3.0 vmfs3 and are working on the last virtual server...

It has two disk files:

DiskFile one - SERVER01.dsk 200GB

DiskFile two - SERVER01.vmdk 45GB

(File one made in old ESX, file two made in ESX 2.5)

I can clearly see, that it is extraordinary stupid of me to have two files naming the same thing... but that does unfortunately not help me in this case!

\- After upgrading the storage (SAN) to vmfs3 and ESX 3

I created a new VitualMachine naming the same as in the old ESX2.5, attached the two old disk files.

\- Then I upgraded the VitualHardware

\- Finely I powered on the Virtual server "SERVER01" and was promted to upgrade the diskfile "SERVER01.dsk" I pressed "OK", and file was upgraded!

Then I was not able to power on the server Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
Reason now only one diskfile "SERVER01.vmdk" 200GB looks like the "SERVER01.vmdk" 45GB file was overwritten.

I have no backup of the data from the 45GB file.

We have:

3 x VI3 std. with VMotion2

1 x VMS2

EMC SAN With 3 shared LUN's for the VMware servers

The LUN, where the 45GB deleted file is placed has not been reconfigured, or new Virtual server added.

The affected Virtual server has not been powered on!

Is it possible to recover the overwritten 45GB file?

If it is, how?

Hope for your help!

Regards

Niels
