Installing and Configuring NTP on VMware ESX server.
Our firewall setup prevents configuring the esx hosts communicating with the internet ntp servers. An internal device relays time to our Data Centre from an Atomic Clock, so I can use this. I have reviewed article kb1339 and would like to confirm that the following configuration:
Copy and rename the default ntp.conf to ntp.conf.bak
Edit the ntp.conf as follows:
Restrict 127.0.0.1
Restrict default kod nomodify notrap
10.x.x.x # local ntp device
Driftfile /var/lib/ntp/drift
Delete all other content from the file.
***************************************************
Don't see any need to modify either the step-ticker or hosts file, given that I am using an IP.
Complete the other details in the kb:
Open the ntpClient port, restart the ntpd service, set the ntpd to autostart, sync with hardware clock.
Thanks
