Hello there,
I just finished my installation of ESX 3.5 on a single server and I already converted a VM (Windows Server 2003) from VMWare-Server to ESX.
The converted VM seems to be running fine. However there is one problem to be solved:
I'm planning to run a software inside the VM (Windows Server 2003) that uses a MAC-address-based license.
The MAC-adress on VMWare-Server was a "generated" one, thus it is one from the "00:0C:29..."-pool.
If I set this MAC-adress in the *.vmx-file as "ethernet0.adress" with ethernet0.addressType ="static" in order to
retain my software-license valid, the VM won't power up (saying: "00:0C:29..." is not an allowed static Ethernet address...).
I must say, that I expected this to happen...
But maybe there is a secret hint how to use the old MAC-address as a static address.
If I am really forced to use a new one from the official "static"-pool ("00:50:56..."), I will have to order new licenses
for my software based on a new MAC-adress...
Thank you for any advice.
Greetings from Germany
Torsten
