ESX Guest hanging

Hi All,

One of my ESX guest is hanging frequently. Its running on a ESX host with 64GB RAM and 8*2.33GHZ processors. It is congifured with 4 Processors and 4GB RAM and is running a critical MS SQL database. This host has abt 15 VMs running on it and is part of a HA and DRS cluster with abt 10 ESX hosts all with simillar configuration.

I noticed that balloon drivers were initialited before the server got hung. Pls see this in the vmware.log file attached. This gives me a feeling that memory utlization was very very high and might have resulted in server hang. I checked the system logs and found that there were a lot of anti-virus scan errors. We use Sophos AV. This kind of confussed me because i thought anti-virus scans are high on CPU and not memory.

We had 2 GB page file set on C drive and 4GB on E drive which i have swapped coz i believe we should atleast at a page file as much as RAM on the syste volume to generate a valid memory dump. In this system hang, memory dump was corrupted and we could not use that to analyse any OS issue (if any).

Pls suggest if there could be any other root cause for this kind of system crash.

An early response is much appreciated as I am on fire to fix this issue.

Thanks,

Yaseen
