Hello,
I am strictly a Windows guy and I am trying to absorb not only all the ESX stuff but also the Linux side of things. As many of you know, in a Windows deployment, it is usually best to separate the OS onto smaller RAIDED disks that from the data. This allows you to of course reinstall the OS in the event of a failure and also to keep the swap file away from the data to mildly increase performance.
Is this also true for ESX 3.5? Is there any noticeable difference or advantage to separating the OS here? Linux seems to be so streamlined and quick, the ESX server boots in about 1 minute which is mind blowing. To keep costs low, and since we will be doing regular backups, could we just get away with putting ESX 3.5 OS on the same drives as the actual VM's themselves?
Thanks and sorry if this seems to be an idiotic question. I am not one to assume anything with different OS'
