I am new to VMWare but I noticed on the ESX O/S that VMWare has included the YUM binary. And from what I can see esx-update is using YUM to apply the RPMs inside the Patch Bundle to the O/S.
So my question is this ...
Is there any reason why you can not just put the RPMs in a directory, and configure a YUM repository up; and use the YUM client on the ESX to update the RPMs ?
Is there something more that esx-update is doing outside of applying the RPMs to the system ?
