Hi all,
I have some headless ESX servers that I have to shutdown on a fairly regular basis (frequent overnight power outages). I know that ESX does not support ACPI, consequently when I issue a shutdown command it will not physically power the machine down - instead it readies the machine for shutdown and prints a "power down" message. Given these servers are headless, I can't see the message so cannot tell when it is safe to power them down. These servers do not have DRAC/Lights Out cards etc.
Is there anything I can do (i.e. make the server beep continually, write to a remote log file etc.) so that I can be sure these servers are ready to be powered off? Any ideas welcome...
Thanks
Matt
