At what point do you consider your datastores to be "full"?
I realize that there is a certain amount of dynamic content for each guest machine on a datastore so you can't keep adding guests and disks until there is 0% freespace on a datastore. Also everyone's datastores are different sizes and made of guests with different needs so it is difficult to have a generic answer such as leaving 20% or 40GB free.
That being said, here is an example of what I am looking at:
250GB datastore
current guests running w/o any active snapshots take up 150GB (60%)
over past 6 months datastore utilization maxed at 200GB (80%) with snapshots
typical guest uses 20GB
How much of that remaining 50GB (20%) would you feel comfortable using?
Would you feel comfortable with a datastore that you anticipate maxing out at 80, 90, 95% utilization?
What do numbers do you look at or guidelines do you use to determine you have maxed out a datastore?
Thanks,
Rod
