So... I'm looking for a replication idea for our primary SAN to an (as of yet unpurchased) off-site SAN. Both SANs are iSCSI and we're using the software HBA... hardware HBAs could be purchased if needed though.
What we're looking for is something that will run on the ESX Host, and allow a failover from one SAN to the other.
Both SANs will be on the same LAN (off-site connected by fiber channel).
If we have 1 SAN + 2 ESX hosts on-site, 1 SAN + 2 ESX hosts off-site (all 4 hosts in the same HA cluster, and all 4 using the production SAN), and the production SAN were to die, is there any way to have ESX automatically fail over to the secondary SAN? Since everyone knows what happens to VMs when their VMDKs disappear.... (I found out what happens when I "accidentally" unplugged all of the switches between my ESX hosts and my SAN -oops).
Some products that I've researched, and am not entirely sure would work:
1) DoubleTake
2) HP Storage Works OpenView
A product that comes to mind, that I have yet to research, is vStorage (I think that's what it is called)... the storage equivilent for vMotion.
