Problem: Service Console & VMotion on trunked connection

I am having difficulties correctly configuring our ESX servers. We plan on assigning two NICs, one on-board and one to the Service Console and VMotion in an active/standby and standby/active pair.

But we are running into difficulty after we install, we are unable to connect to the service console. Did we miss something during the install? Or do we need to take additional steps after we install because we are bringing in a trunked network connection?
