VM copy from ESX 2.52 to ESX3

Hello:

I want to copy some VMs off of our ESX 2.5.2 environment over to our ESX 3.0.1 environment. What is the best way to do this? Can I simply copy over the .vmdk and then add to my inventory within our ESX 3 enviroment?
