I have couple of questions on ESXi backup, appreciate if somebody clarify few things. :
- We have only one server having ESXi (free version) which recently setup with 2 VM's having Windows 2003 Server (stnd). We are using storageflex (hybrid NFS/SAN) storage almost 1 TB allocated space. As i m not using multiple ESXi Servers, how can i take the backups of my VM's. Generally we use symantec Net Backup 6.5.3 on our physical machines for File /Folder level backups. I dont know if i just copy the files (from datastore), will it work. I read on som posts that net backup 6.5.3 is not supported for file level backups in VM's. Can any one tell me simple way 1) HOw can I backupy my VM's 2) Can i use Net backup 6.5.3 for my general file level backups. or do i have buy another tool for backups for vmware. In future we will having more VM's on this server and currently our VM's are 20 GB & 25 GB respectively.
- How can i take ESXi as backup. My first question is differnt. We have only one ESXi server. If this goes down, how i can take this as backup. Should i use some image tool to take the image. Can somebody explaing me how do this in simple steps.
