I would like to hear opinions of the following matter. I have created a 6-node Cluster running ESX 3.5 Build 143128. Each node is a HP DL580G5 2-Quad CPU with 64Gb RAM. I placed two Quad-NIC cards and Two Dual-NIC cards in the boxes (plus the two embedded NIC's). All storage is FC to SAN
VMNIC 0 and 1 -- Service Console --Emebedded
VMNIC 8, 9, 12 and 13 -- vSwitch1 for production VM traffic. 8 and 12 go to switch1 and are etherchanneled. 9 and 13 go to switch2 and are etherchanneled. IP has is setup all around -- top two of each Quad
VMNIC 2, 3 4 and 5 -- vswitch2 for Test/DEv QA traffic setup exactly as above but to different switches than production -- Dual NIC's
VMNIC 6 and 10 -- VMotion on an isolated non-routable VLAN -- Middle of Quad
VMNIC 7 and 11 -- Used for backup traffic -- using esXpress for the time being. -- bottom of Quad
My network team would like to replace all of this with a two 10Gig Cards one to each production switch to carry all this traffci. Now I see problems but what problems do you see? I am definitly giving points for this one
Thanks,
Ari
