RDM issue joining a new VM node to an existing MS Cluster

I have a 2 physical node MS 2003 Exchange 2003 Cluster.

This cluster is using LUNs on the same SAN as my VC cluster.

I am attempting to add a 3rd VM node to the cluster so I can deprecate one of my physical boxes.

The LUNs are presented to the ESX server hosting the VM and show up when I scan the bus.

Normally when I create an RDM, the the vmdk map file is a size proportionate to the LUN.  In this case the size of the files is practically nothing.  The LUNs are seen by Disk Manager in the VM but they say "Unknown" "Unreadable" and the Cluster Administrator says that the quorum isn't accessible.

I have my RDMs on their own adapter which is set to physical sharing mode and each disk is set to physical mode.  Does the ESX server require exclusive access to a LUN while the RDM is created?  I can arrange this during a maintenance window if that is the issue.  I just don't have a lot of experience mapping RDMs that are already in use.

I would appreciate any advice.  Thanks!
